CERAMICS

Ceramics takes the raw material, clay, and turns it into a wide variety of functional and sculptural objects. Students learn to work with their hands and on the potters wheel and to create using a range of techniques.  Fired work is food safe. Fired work can also be put into the microwave and dishwasher.

Ceramics I

Ceramics I introduces the student to the medium of clay. Projects are based in the basic techniques of pinch, slab, coil, and modeling.  The basics of the potters wheel are also covered.  Glazing and firing technology and techniques are introduced.

Ceramics II

Ceramics III

Ceramics II begins where Ceramics I left off and introduces the students to more complex projects and decorating techniques. Student choice in projects takes a more leading role as students begin to develop their own ceramic voice.

Ceramics III allows the student to take a leading role in the development of their projects. An in-depth look at modern ceramic artists and techniques is explored through the use of a sketchbook.
